The National Electricity Market of Singapore (NEMS)

The Singapore government embarked on the deregulation of the electricity market in order to introduce competition and achieve a more efficient market. The deregulated market has so far benefited customers through more competitive electricity prices and electricity package choices.

Under the deregulated market, contestable customers are free to choose independent electricity retailers, such as Tuas Power Supply and the type of contract that will best meet their business needs.

You will be eligible for contestability if you fulfill the following criteria:

  • If your business monthly electricity consumption is above 2,000kWh
  • If you have an existing contestable account and would like to apply contestability for the rest of your business sites
  • If you have one or more existing business account that meets the prevailing 2,000kWh threshold individually or collectively

For more information, please call Tuas Power Supply at 68385565. We will be glad to assist you.

Businesses in Singapore stand to benefit from the liberalised market. As a contestable customer, you now have a choice to purchase electricity through one of the following options:

1. Sign an electricity contract with electricity retailers such as Tuas Power Supply Pte Ltd
2. Purchase electricity directly from wholesale electricity market and manage your electricity price fluctuations risks in-house
3. Purchase electricity directly from wholesale electricity market through SP Services Ltd at spot prices.

Once the package has been selected, we will take care of the other details for you so that you can enjoy a hassle-free transition.

Your electricity supply will not be affected by the transfer as the transfer process only involves administrative procedures.

Tuas Power Supply requires a security deposit equivalent to 2.5 times your average monthly bill amount. However, if your company chooses to make monthly payments via GIRO, the security deposit may be reduced to an equivalent of 2 months’ average bill amount. However, this is subject to the approval of your application for Interbank GIRO.

In the National Electricity Market Of Singapore, your meter readings will no longer be recorded physically by SP Services on a monthly basis. Instead, it will be downloaded through the telephone line daily between 12am to 6am.

Without a telephone line, SP Services can send a meter reader to your premise to manually download your half-hourly electricity consumption data. However, this is chargeable at $80 per account per trip.
